Alright so I'm building a new rig, i'm set on the processor and everything. But I am really struggling between my graphics card. I would LOVE a titan Z, but we all know those are for millionaires. So my question is go with the r9 295x2 or 780ti REMEMBER I WILL BE GAMING AT 1080P 120 HZ. I'd really love the extra power and all but i've hear overheating horror stories with the R9 290X and I didn't know if the X2 was the same. I wouldn't think considering it has it's own water cooler, but if anyone could tell me it would be great!

More about : rig 295x2 780

defo the 295x2 if you have room for its watercooling and a power supply beefy enough to run it. What are the specs of the rest of your rig? cpu? psu? case?

Well the 780ti is a single gpu card where the 295x2 is a dual gpu card on one PCB. So you really needs to be asking 780TIx2 OR the 295x2.

295x2 is the better option for max settings for a longer period of time. The prices are too close for the additional grunt you get with the 295x2. A 290x is so close to the 780ti and you are actually getting 2 290x's for an extra 50-400 dollars depending on the model of the 780ti

Yea for the $1000 price tags right now the 295x2 is def a prime choice card. The 780ti sli option would perform better but would also cost you probably $200 more. So right now and has the edge.

Your best value at 1080p is the R9 290. Temps for non-reference cooled 290 (x) are the same as Nvidia. Most people quote the reference models, which is deceiving. No one would recommend a reference model without some sort of custom cooling.

Below is a pretty good review of the R9 295x2, with comparisons of other cards. Total overkill at 1080p, unless you plan to upgrade to 1440p or 4k:

Both AMD and Nvidia make very good cards. It come down to preference and price.
I always consider price/performance .

Embra read the original posters post. He said he is gonna be gaming at 120hz which means he needs a steady solid 120fps to fully use his 120hz monitor so the 290 would not be a good choice of card.

Certainly, you will not get 120 fps at 120 hz for all games, but is merely the bottom end option in my opinion.
It is a viable one.

The thing is, is that money doesn't matter right now. I will go up to 3.5k. I WANT overkill. Overkill is better than not having enough. I'm going to need the card for vid editing, gaming (bf4, Arma 2 dayz, crysis, cod) will 1000 watts be enough?

850-1000 high quality PSU for a R9 295x2.

Well R9 295x2 is the fastest card on a single PCI-E Board so not a difficult choice.
