I recently received a second hand Dell Inspiron 1545 on Windows Vista which still contains the original owners data/files/programs etc. I wanted to factory restore it so pressed F12 on startup to get the advanced boot options which from looking at forums should have given me the option to repair/restore the laptop. There was no option like that there. I can see the partition in My Computer and it contains no files but says 7.39 GB of space has been used. From looking at forums I believe this is due to the original user corrupting the partition so I can't reboot from it. I don't have any disks to reinstall Vista from, any ideas on what to do?
Many thanks

Get a Vista disk and use those. Or buy a Windows copy and use that. Dell may send you the disks for it for a charge, but would be less than buying a new OS version.

If the sytem runs fine aside from the user files (which is a horrible idea to leave when giving a computer to someone else) you can simple create a user account for you (make sure they are part of the adminstrator group), log on as that account and delete the original user account. Then to go the C:\Users folder and if there is still a directory with that user name there, delete that.
