Hey everyone,

So after reading this thread:

http://www.overclock.net/t/1507897/samsung-840-evo-read-speed-drops-on-old-written-data-in-the-drive

I decided to defrag my Samsung 840 Evo with Mydefrag, just like it says in the thread. Defrag finished with no issues, after which I restarted my computer. Upon restart, I get stuck at my Asus splash screen. I can't get into Bios, doesn't go forward to Windows start up, just freezes.

I tried unplugging the SSD and booting from my HDD and, sure enough, that works. I'm almost certain that defragging messed up the SSD somehow, but everyone on that thread seems to have done it with no problems, so not sure what went wrong.

One other thing, I booted from my HDD into Windows and tried hotplugging the SSD, and that resulted in a BSOD and massive errors (probably shouldn't have done that).

I've tried clearing CMOS. Not sure what else to do.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

You don't defrag an SSD. There's nothing to defrag. Data on an SSD does not fragment since its not on a spinning platter. Defragging an SSD kills it. YOU NEVER DEFRAG AN SSD!

The guys in that Overclocker's forum are stupid, once again, you do not defrag an SSD.

You'll have to RMA the SSD, and if you ask them about the issue, they'll tell you the same thing, Never defrag an SSD.

One more thing. From a commentor on Reddit about the Overclokcer forum thread: "I know for positive from reading the first post the guy is full of something. He talks about "reading old data" and using HDTach to read that old data.. HD Tach isn't accessing files, it's accessing the drive, probably sending reads to specific LBA's from the start to the end. His comment about the last part being free space.. NOOOO. SSD's don't work like HDD's, they remap LBA's to different PBA's all the time, thanks to wear leveling. We don't start at the beginning and go to the end like HDD's. His post shows a total lack of understanding about how SSD's work..."
