Hi Guys

I have a dilema I have always liked to thinker around with computers. I have always only ever made it as far as your standard upgrades such us ram, fans, hdd and expansion cards.

I have never delved in to the mobo and processing uprgades. I find that is too much to do expecialy when upgrading the mobo.

the biggest challenge i am facing is which chip set to buy and which chip set cpus are supported by the different mobo.

for example if you have a 1151 mobo would a 1150 cpu be compatible.

this being said because as far as i can tel each time a newer generation cpu that come out the chip set changes. meaning that you always have to change you mobo with newer processors.

thanks guys. i am really confused by all this.

Any CPU that has a different LGA socket requires a different motherboard. You can't stick an LGA 1155 CPU into a 1150 socket.

thank you icaraeus.

With that do you find for example different i5 processors and i7 processors with the same chipset.

and what is the latest chipsets that are available that would most likely be compatable with the next generation of i-processors.

You would need an H97 or Z97 chipset to support the next gen i series, commonly known here as Broadwell. Current haswell series chips are compatible with these chipsets. All the CPU's on this list are compatible with the latest chipset.
