Hello everybody,
I started reading the FAQ on RAM and quickly realized how out of my league I am. Any help you can provide will be MUCH appreciated. I'm guessing at this point I may have purchased the wrong type. If that's the case, please school a noob
I did my research ahead of time and thought for sure I purchased the correct type of RAM, also confirmed by a friend of mine, but it's not working. No matter what configuration I try with the new RAM, I get no video signal and the numlock on the keyboard doesn't respond. The fans come on and I hear the optical drive working, but that's about it. I previously had 3 sticks of 2gb of RAM in my mobo. My plan was to have 2 sticks of 2gb and 2 sticks of 4gb (the new RAM) for a total of 12gb. My computer should be able to handle 16gb of RAM and it is dual channel.
Desktop Model: Acer AM3450-UR30P (PT.SHDP2.001)
Prcessor: AMD Quad-Core FX-4100 3.6GHz
New RAM that's not working (description according to the seller listing): 4gb 512x72 PC3-10600 1333MHz 1.5v ECC REG DDR3 PIN DIMM 1RX4
New RAM that's not working (description according to its label): MT18KDF51272PZ-1G4D1BB 1041, 4gb 1RX4 PC3L-10600R-9-10-PM, CBNECLS005
Number I found on my mobo (don't know if will help): RS880PM-AM, and 15-Y51-0110990
What I've tried so far:
- I tried putting 1 stick of the new RAM in at a time in every slot with both sticks individually.
- I tried putting both oth the new sticks in with every slot configuration possible.
- I've updated my BIOS. It was dated 9/30/11, I downloaded the one from ACER labeled 8/8/12, and my BIOS now says it's from 4/20/12, so I guess it's updated?
- Verified all slots still work with the old RAM.
Thanks again for any help you can provide!
