So I live in an apartment complex where it includes free community wifi. I have a router of my own but I noticed there is no ethernet port in this apartment. How can I go about establishing my own wireless network from that? I noticed many people around me have their own wifi and what not this way.

But how can I establish it for myself? There is a modem port in the apartment, do I need a modem for support?

Ask one of your neighbors how they are doing it. What you may be seeing is people with cellular hotspots because they don't like the performance or security of the shared WIFI. Your neighbors could also be paying for internet from the cable company or something, again because they don't like the performance or security of the shared WIFI.

You can get wired internet with a wireless access point from an ISP through the telephone line. You shouldn't need an ethernet port, just a wireless router with a modem (sometimes it's just 1 device), a free telephone socket (the main one), and a subscription with an ISP. Even though your neighbors have their own wireless, I'm assuming they will still need a wired point providing internet access.
