Keyboard and Mouse randomly fail ?

Hi guys,

I got a weird problem where my keyboard and mouse go into a state where I can't type anything and pushing letters results in other miscellaneous actions.

When this happens my mouse cannot open files or folders and instead double-click becomes right-click, the scroll wheel doesn't work either.

I've tried unplugging all USB devices, removing drivers completely. The only thing that fixes it is a system reboot. It happens so randomly, sometimes in game and sometimes just in OS.

Built this rig two years ago, never had such problems before or seen it on any rig for that matter. I've been using the same keyboard (Microsoft Sidewinder) for roughly 6 years.

The only thing I can think of is a problem with the USB ports themselves, though I have tried using both the 2.0 and 3.0 ports but the problem still occurs.

Any idea what's going on ?

Can you look at event viewer under windows logs > system and windows logs > application... if you're unable to open event viewer because of the keyboard/mouse malfunctioning then make note of the exact time of day when it occurs, reboot and look through event viewer for events from that time of day

Hey,

The problem last occurred yesterday. I looked in Application and System and there wasn't much going on besides this, which from memory was the time I last experienced the issue:

Log Name: Application

Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.

Nothing in Hardware events. There is a bunch of other stuff going on in different environments, but nothing that resembles a interface or component failure.
