Hello guys, since im mostly playing playstation 2 games via pcsx2 emulator, i decided buying c2d e8500(or 8400). The emulator only takes advantige of two cores so overclocking a dual core cpu to 4 ghz is my best option price+performance wise. So here's my question, which mobo should i look for, if i want 4ghz stable oc? i did a little reasearch and found that p45 chipset mb's are the best, but they are a little expensive(about 70$ for used ones on ebay), on the other hand p41 owners complain they got problems ocing. so whats best affordable chipset/mobo? I read that ram also plays a role in the overclock, i wonder if mine is good enough, i got 2x1GB samsung pc2-5300 m378T2953ez3 -s.

Thanks !

P41 will have low oc ability compared to a p45. You may not hit 4Ghz with an overclock even with a p45 it all depends on the chip and the cooling. 70 for a used board 30 for a cooler to get you there. You are escaping reason and you might not hit 4Ghz as not all chips will get that high.

This will give you approximately the same power as the e8400 @ 4Ghz

Intel Pentium G3220 Haswell Dual-Core 3.0GHz $59.99

ECS H81H3-M4 (1.0A) LGA $39.99

And the performance is guaranteed, but ofcourse you need the newer ram

Crucial 2GB (2 x 1GB) $34.99

Or double the ram for an extra 10 dollars.
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3DDR3 1600

or to cheap out get 1 stick @ 2GB $21.99

Team Elite Plus 2GB DDR3DDR3 1333
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820313422

at least you get guaranteed performance at the required level.

Didn't kow anything about Pentium processor, turns out it is a killer in emulation, much better than e8400. One question, want to buy this ram but concerned about its compatibility because in features it says :

"Compatible with Intel LGA1155/LGA1156 and AMD AM3/Llano/AM3+ platforms
Intel XMP support for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Generation Intel Core Processors"

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231428

Does it mean its not compatible with LGA 1150 motherboard?

thanks.
