We're setting up a system that needs to be capable of writing 2GB/s to disk. We have 9 SSD's, one with the OS and programs installed, and then an 8 Samsung 840 Pro SSD Raid 0 Array. The raid is hooked up the an Adaptec 8805 raid controller that is supposed to be capable of 12Gb/s per port. I've been struggling to get this system to have write speeds better than about 1850MB/s which is shy of the desired 2GB/s. Is there any ideas on what I could try to optimize my write speeds

Thanks

Solution
IMO RevoDrives would not be a good solution: low capacity and not enterprise quality.

The Adaptec 8805 is a real beast with over 6GB/s capability, but all reviews that I've seen are with Hitachi SSD800MM drives.

So much cost into that. Coulda got a revodrive for 800-1200 drive to get close to those speeds. and two revos drives from prolly 3GB/s.

With my one $800 revodrive 350 I get 1750+w 1800+r.

@kmuchmor how did you acheaved these rates? I have also 8 SSD (S. 850 Pro 256gb) and the same raid controller Adaptec 8805. With RAID 10 I achieve ca 1000 read and 350 write. Even I would create RAID0 never I saw write rates like 1850 :(.

At what block size and queue depth is your workload? You will have some issues after the flash gets dirty with small block sizes and those drive. The steady state performance will be an issue. The 840 Pro at 4K steady state is lower than 10K IOPS. It also scatters all over the place so the latency will compound.

The latency issue with the drives in steady state will be an issue at all block sizes though. One drives latency compounds with the others. The best consumer drive to tackle the issue is the SanDisk Extreme PRO. An even better option though would be the Smart / SanDisk Optimus.
