Hello Techy Gurus! THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for spending your time reviewing my questions.

I purchased a pair of Gateway Laptops (NE52224U). I realize what they are, so "don't judge me"... :-)... these are for my kids to take to school for notes, books, etc. (Did you guys know schools are eliminating text books and switching to online/eBook formats?) Anyway, I had option of ultrabook sized screens, 11.6", or getting bargain laptops. For $265... I chose the cheapest option (but also bought an Asus ROG G750 series machine for me (and kids gaming).

The AS IS SPECS are below and here are the questions I have:

QUESTION ONE: --- Can/Should I upgrade AMDprocessor?
-- Current configuration: E2-3800, 1.30 GHz, Quad-core, 2 MB cache

** According to Gateway Tech Chat Support, these are the processors that will get supported in your computer:
*** AMD A-Series quad-core processor A6-5200 (2 MB L2 cache, 2.0 GHz, DDR3L
1333/1600 MHz, 25 W)
*** AMD A-Series quad-core processor A4-5000 (2 MB L2 cache, 1.5 GHz, DDR3L
1333/1600 MHz, 15 W)
*** AMD E-Series dual-core processor E1-2500 (1 MB L2 cache, 1.4 GHz, DDR3L
1333 MHz, 15 W)

QUESTION TWO: Can/Should I upgrade the HDD to SSD?
-- Current configuration: HDD, 1tb, Serial ATA, HDD RPM 5400

QUESTION THREE: Will adding another 2gb of RAM make any noticeable difference?
-- Current configuration: 6gb, DDR3L, SDRAM

I own a Lenovo G505 with an A6-5200 and it's a fine APU but it does run just a wee bit warm. Slows down a bit on balanced mode while Web browsing on the battery. No huge slow downs though and can last me a full day without having to charge. Also I wouldn't think that adding another 2GB of RAM would make a major difference but adding an SSD would.

Nearly every laptop let's you upgrade your hard drive so an SSD would be preferable. I would recommend either a Crucial M500 128GB or a Samsung 840 EVO 120GB. It will save you a bit more power and lower the overall heat inside the chassis.
