When I go to the 7zip website it says it is compatible with windows 7, but does not mention windows 8. I downloaded it last week and it doesn't work. Everytime I try to open one of my old 7z files, it re-installs the program instead. Perhaps I did it wrong. I have uninstalled it. So I want to know: What do i need to download from the website?

Yes it works with windows 8. Go to their website http://www.7-zip.org, and depending on if your system is 32 or 64 bit, download that version. I believe both are around 1 mb. Install it and it is supposed to work.
