Allows for upgrading to a stronger CPU,and possibly a better card.
You don't need a CPU cooler for the G3420,the stock one will do just fine.
You can expect to play BF4 at probably high settings(http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=3060&game=Battlefield+4&p_make=Intel&p_deriv=Pentium+G3420+3.2GHz&gc_make=ATI&gc_deriv=Radeon+R9+280+Gigabyte+WindForce+3X+OC+3GB+Edition&ram=8&checkSubmit=#systemRequirements) at above 45 FPS.
Crysis 3 at medium (http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=3953&game=Crysis+3&p_make=Intel&p_deriv=Pentium+G3420+3.2GHz&gc_make=ATI&gc_deriv=Radeon+R9+280+Gigabyte+WindForce+3X+OC+3GB+Edition&ram=8&checkSubmit=#systemRequirements) and keep it above 50 FPS.
All the best,mate. ;)

hmm I like this. Why the intel over the amd? since they're so similar.

No,they're not.Well, sometimes they are. Sometimes Intel is better and sometimes AMD is better.
But if you pick an Intel CPU now, then you can upgrade to a stronger CPU,like an i5 4690K in the future. If you get an FX-6300 for example, you can upgrade to an FX-9590,but that CPU melts under the cooler and it requires twice the amount of power as an i5 4690K.And it's overpriced. Other option is an FX-8350,but an i5 4690K will demolish the FX.

Is a pentium lower quality of a CPU than the i3?

The i3 is slightly faster, but the G3420 can still game at 1080p.
As I stated above, you can expect to play BF4 and Crysis at medium-high with 45+ FPS on the LG monitor you originally wanted to buy.
With the 1600x900 monitor I suggested, you may get even more than that. :)
