Fuck Games for Windows Live.

With that out of the way, I'd like to describe my incredible problems with trying desperately to get GTA IV to run. When I redownloaded it onto this fresh install of Windows through Steam, hoping to recover my old saves, it started up fairly normally at first. I logged into Social Club and cranked my settings up. When starting the game however, GFWL and it's ridiculous shenanigans pops up to tell me I need to log in in order to save my game. So I try to sign in, and it takes forever, but finally tells me that I need to update it or I can't play GTA, and that I may need to restart my computer. So I say yes to the update, and when the overlay closes the game decides it would rather continue playing and start the opening cutscene rather than quit to my desktop. Many fervent mashes of the esc key later, now back on my desktop, I click the OK button on an administrative dialogue box for GFWL's update. A couple installation windows later and... nothing. No installation wizard, no confirmation box; it was just those few windows with some loading bars that immediately closed. So I start the game back up, but no matter how many times I try to log into GFWL it keeps giving me network errors, even though it clearly just downloaded an update for itself. I keep trying but eventually give up, and started searching for a solution. I came across a forum post that said to uninstall the default GFWL installation and get it directly from Microsoft's website at http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/pc/DownloadClient. I should then open the properties of the installer, set it's compatibility version to my current OS (Windows 7), and run it as an administrator. Doing all this, when the 'sign in' dialogue opened it wouldn't let me log in, and gave the error code 80070005. I then tried reopening my game, and while trying to sign in there it told me there was an update for it again.

So here I am now, desperate to play a simple game and without a solution.

Solution
go to the gta4 forums and get the xliveless file. It bypasses games for windows live in the game. I have been playing GTA4 for years without GFWL.

I tried running the file, but it said "'subinacl' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." several times before saying "finished".
