I am a complete novice when it comes to RAM. I bought owc 16gb for my macbookpro through a third party. I looked at owc's website, and it does not show if my computer is compatible with the bought RAM, but shows my computer compatible with a different set of RAM.

What I bought: 2 x 8.0GB 1600MHz DDR3L SO-DIMM PC12800 204 Pin

What I should have bought: 2 x 8.0GB PC8500 DDR3 1066MHz 204 Pin

I have trying to do my research, so bus speed does not matter too much since my computer will downgrade it. But I hear I have to watch out for is the voltage? What I bought has 1.35v and what I should have bought is 1.5v. Will that difference be detrimental or can I still use this RAM and not return it?

RAM for a macbook pro is always tricky. Bus speed actually does matter as well as voltage. You can try the RAM and if it works and you don't see any issues, you'll probably be fine.

There's a good chance you'll just get beeps when you power it on though, and if that's the case, you'll have to switch it up.
