issue with external hdd, nothing works

please help,

i'm a pc novice so will try my best to explain. Has a vista acer which has suffered from black screen. took hdd out and connected to windows 8 laptop via usb. when trying to access the "F" drive, says access denied. gone through numerous forums and walk throughs, taken ownership and changed permissions, still says access denied. what am I doing wrong? when pc trys to change seviruty setting, I can see the files paths flick up with my pics, Samsung kies etc, so I know its all there. please help!!

You said you've tried almost everything, what steps did you take to resolve the problem? Can you be more specific?
I found a similar thread here that helped others, I don't know if you've tried this method for ownership:

Have you ever set a password for it?
If you didn't have a password on it before, something might have triggered the unlocker.
If this happens, I'm afraid there's not much you can do except reformat the drive.
Unfortunately, you have to be prepared for the worst and lose your data.
But from what you've shared it looks like you want your it back, but please walk me...
