GOAL IS TO CLONE the Asus W7 harddrive onto the new SSD hard drive after it's installed in Sony laptop. Believe I know the answers; however, when I'm NOT totally sure, it's been my experience to Ask and be willing to LEARN from those who know 'Easier' or 'Better' ways to accomplish the task at hand. My Goal's are:

#1- After installing a new SSD drive, have a W7 op system on the Sony W8 laptop (Sony Store sold only W8 in new laptops). Purchased the new Sony W8 laptop solely on Sony's promise of downgrading W8 to W7. Sony reps provided five website links for the W8 to W7downgrade, hiding the fact a NEW Full version of W7 at a cost of ~$280 needed to be purchased. If an OEM W7 (~$90) was purchased, there would be NO Microsoft support as provided to their FULL Retail version <now ~$300> and now harder to acquire a year later. Yes, 'Easy' route is learn W8; however, at my age, Microsoft will release W9 long before I manage to muddle through the despicable W8. Today it's the 'Best' way to have W7 OP system on new SSD drive in the Sony (SVS13A290X) laptop, AND to transfer all documents, programs, etc which are currently in use on the ASUS G51 series laptop

#2- Need documents and records from Asus laptop copied onto Sony laptop (after installing new SSD <see above>) which can be done with a program and USB cable. However, the QUESTION is- (?) possible to CLONE the ENTIRE Asus drive (programs and OP System) onto the Sony's new 480GB SSD drive?

Point of information: own a W7 op system install disc originally intended for another Asus laptop- which should work on different brand of laptop (?); but would spend $90 for OEM version of W7 before taking a chance of problems with Sony laptop.

When not entirely sure, I ask questions from those more knowledgeable on the subject, which is the reason behind this Posting on Tom's Hardware site. Thank you for your time. davzway
