Hay,
I wanted to know how to connect two PC's via LAN to play games like quake, unreal tournament,cs,nfs, sniper ghost, split second, etc.
What are the required components.? Well..I have a Cross over cable and his desktop running Win7 and my laptop running win8.1 both have LAN ports installed, I mean the RJ45 ports... I have a cat5e marked cable with me don't know if its Ethernet or crossover or what type of cable hope it could me used for the multiplayer game.

you can simply connect the two computers via ethernet cable to form a network.

if it says cat5e, that will work just fine.

All you need is a router to connect to.

If you want to use just a crossed Ethernet cable between the computers, assign static IP addresses on them, like
Computer 1: IP 192.168.1.101, Netmask 255.255.255.0
Computer 2: IP 192.168.1.102, Netmask 255.255.255.0
Then check that each computer can ping the other one.

What OSes you have on these computers?
If this is Windows - go to Control Panel, Networking, and on network adapters change IP configuration from automatic (DHCP) to static, and enter these addresses.

On some Windows versions you have to restart the computer for changes to take effect.
