Hey everyone, I'm new here!!

I'm wondering if anyone could help me out? I'm looking for a wired, Ethernet router where there is the option to specify an ASCII string client identifier for the router to send when it is looking/asking for an IP Address from a DHCP server. I've already looked at Cisco devices, but even when specifying a Client ID, they attach the MAC or a partial MAC to the end and I can't have that in this situation.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

The last time I messed with this option we ran into all kinds of issue with servers not supporting it correctly. Just a guess but I would suspect since you can set this option in the dhclient.conf file in most unix dist you should be able to set thing in a router that is running third party firmware like dd-wrt or openvpn. We ran into issue that dhcp option 61 was not fully supported.
