Would my Mobo run this CPU and GTX760?

Hi all

Just after some more advice . I already have an MSI GeForce GTX760 and (after some great advice on here yesterday) am now looking at buying an i5 4690K CPU . My question is would it at all be possible for my current motherboard (Foxconn H61MXL/H61MXL-K) run that setup?

Funds are now even more limited than first thought so if I can get away with just spending money on a new CPU and leave the mobo until a later date, that would be ideal. I have priced up the Asus Z97 and would aim to get one in the not too distant future.

I've also got a 600w PSU and 8gb RAM.

All thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

I'd recommend a board with a 9-series chipset. That way you're sure that the CPU and the board are compatible. With the 8-series you kind of have to hope that you get a board with a good BIOS version.

Something like this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($209.97 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: ASRock H97M Anniversary Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($70.38 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $280.35
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

I picked the K-version of the CPU because it's cheaper for some reason. If you don't want to overclock you don't...

Your motherboard has a LGA1155 socket, while the Haswell series of CPUs, the 4690K included, requires a LGA1150 socket. So the CPU won't work, it won't even fit in fact.

The graphics card will work just fine, no problems there.

I forgot to mention that I won't be overclocking. Would there be a better and cheaper option CPU and mobo that would give same level of performance as an i5 4690K that isn't overclocked? I've got a i5 2320 at the moment. I'm also a bit confused by it all....

Cheers

Vex is right the H61 chipset is for LGA 1155 motherboards. The i5-4xxx series are Haswell which are LGA 1150. A GIGABYTE GA-H81M-HD2 from NewEgg is $44.79 after $10.00 rebate card. If your not going to overclock you don't have to get the K version of the Intel i5-4670 that would save you another $15. The i5-4690 Haswell Refresh is about $224 and should run on that MB too.

I picked the K-version of the CPU because it's cheaper for some reason. If you don't want to overclock you don't lose anything by going with the non-K version if you can find it cheaper. The board isn't fit for overclocking anyway.
