Narrowing down Random shutdowns to a faulty psu

Recently I started experiencing unexpected shutdowns from my PC, most notably when the system is under considerable load (playing games). The system just turns off by itself (similar to pulling the plug) and you have to remove the power cord from the mains and wait for a couple of minutes to plug it back in to make it power on. No graphics artifacts as well (to rule out graphics card issues, and did preliminary troubleshooting with the vid card by replacing it with an old but working GTX260 - a leftover from a previous build). Had to strip down to the bare components, with graphics being provided by the integrated video provided by the 3570k Intel Processor ( I removed my GTX 670), two hard drives and one 8GB module (from the initial 16GB config). I still get unexpected shutdowns even by just copying files from one HDD to another. The CPU is adequately cooled by a Corsair H100. The PC Chassis is a CoolerMaster HAFX with all fans installed and are cleaned regularly (poor ventilation is ruled out). MemTest was done on both modules and tests were successful when I managed to have it powered for a much longer duration in 2 separate instances.
The power supply in question is a Cougar CMX700.
I'd like to know if the motherboard (AsRock Z77 Extreme) can also be the culprit or has anyone experienced this and had this solved by replacing JUST the PSU?
On a side note:
I just installed WIndows 7 on a spare drive on the same system (bare config). Had no problems. But when I tried installing just the chipset drivers, I get the shutdown. I was able to power it back using the method I described earlier.
I appreciate your input on this.
Good day.

I have all the latest drivers for the chipset, the graphics (even the Intel IGP), etc. conveniently stored in a thumb drive. Before encountering this problem, I religiously update the drivers for all applicable hardware and the drivers were up to date.

I was able to install core drivers at this time. I can't rule out a corrupted installation file/s because at my second attempt at installing the drivers (from the Thumb drive where all my drivers are stored), it was successful. Anyways, I'm leaning towards a PSU issue. I may have to borrow a spare unit from a friend to confirm my suspicions and I'll be updating this thread.
