Looking to start ordering parts for my first gaming pc build. I've got an older monitor (1600x900), usb mouse and keyboard already. I'm also in need of a solid wireless network card.

I've looked all over for a proper build in my budget range but am afraid they may be outdated and the money could be better spent elsewhere now. Here's a build I was considering: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/8rtZXL

Appreciate the help.

I would go for Western Digital for hard drives. I don't mean to advertise but I've had bad experience with Seagate for hard drive failure.

Is there a reason you need the wireless card? You aren't building a mini-itx system so you could just do direct ethernet.

The CPU is solid, RAM is ok, HDD is fine, gfx card is fine, PSU is fine, etc.

Mobo I can't say much for, but I'm pretty sure it's fine. If you are not opposed to a used board, I have an ASRock Extreme3+ 970 that I could get you for much less (PM for details). I could get you an Asus M5A99FX Pro R2.0 board for a little more than that board.

This is a thread (made by me, explained by others) that may help you understand why I don't recommend the board you picked for the AMD build

I've got an ethernet wall port right by my desk, but when I try to use it it doesn't work. I don't think our internet is configured for ethernet, at least not in different rooms than the router.

No no. Ethernet ports are not in the wall (not normally in homes anyway). You would connect the modem to the router for wifi. Thus, you connect another cable from the router to your computer's ethernet port for a wired connection. If you can't move the router or put your PC in the same room as the router, then you will need a WiFi adapter.
