I bought a new Sapphire R9 280x Dual-X and 550 watt XFX PSU for a HP computer upgrade at my dad's house. The GPU arrived today, but NCIX and FedEx said the power supply probably won't be here for another 4-7 days. The HP computer has a 520 watt Dynex PSU, which I knows it sucks.
I want to know if I can test the GPU with that PSU just to see if it works, or should I wait for the new one to arrive? I know the PSU will probably crash the computer if the GPU reaches full load, but all I want to do is boot it up and install drivers.
Here is info about the PSU and other components:

PSU: Dynex-brand 520 watt
Rail info:
12V1: 18 amps
12V2: 16 amps
max 12v rail wattage: 420 watts
3.3V: 20 amps
5V: 18 amps
It has one 8 pin PCIe power connector and will need a molex-PCIe adapter.
CPU: Phenom II x4 840t
MOBO: Foxconn 2AB1

Beware! You'll need WAY more amps per rail than that for a 280X. i would say don't do it as it may:
1, Fry your GPU
2, Fry your PSU
3, Fry your GPU AND your PSU
4, Fry nothing but not work.
A PC won't even boot up with a 550 watts and a 280X.

I put my system specs into powersupplycalculator.net and it said I will need a minimum of 400 watts under full load. I used a wattage to amps converter and 400 watts equates to 33 amps @ 12v. The Dynex PSU outputs 34 amps on the 12v rail. Keep in mind this is only full load, I don't plan to put my PC under full load with a Dynex PSU...

That statement isn't even a little bit true.

Maybe if I had an OCed FX 8350 or 9590 I might need more... but no single-GPU system with a stock CPU (excluding the FX 9000 series) will draw more than 550 watts under full load. The XFX ProSeries PSU is also in tier 2 of the PSU tier list, so it is very reliable and high quality.

You could test your gpu but I wouldn't recommend it. I would suggest you wait it out or take the gpu to another pc that has a decent psu to test with.

After further research I found out that Dynex uses cheap capacitors and transistors which will almost certainly explode should the system pull too much power from the PSU. Thanks for the help guys, it looks like it would be much smarter just to be patient and wait for the other PSU.

By the way... I probably should've known this before buying the GPU... but it says on the box "Compatible with motherboards that comply with UEFI specification 2.3.1 or after. My mobo is a Foxconn 2AB1, and I can't any detailed specs like that, so do you think there will be an issue? Is this only if using a UEFI mobo BIOS? Because the HP BIOS is legacy and on sapphire's website it says compatible with legacy and UEFI BIOS.
