So I just made my new build:
I5 4590 on an H97 pro4. And of course I instantly had to test the build so I downloaded prime95. And the cpu temepratures instantly jumped up to 88°C in 3-4 minutes. I assambled the pc myself, so could it be that something isnt connected right? Other than that I have no idea what could be wrong. Any ideas?

I would think it's normal as Prime95 kinda pushed CPUs to their limits.

Well.. as soon as overheating issues start happening:

Did you put thermal paste on? And apply it right? Just a small amount and spred it thin on the whole dye.

Is there plastic still on the bottem of your heatsink? Its a funny no brainer but in the excitement slips the mind sometimes.

What is your max temp your cpu has, and its natural average temps its ment to run at?

Is your cooler adequate for the build?

Start running through a double check on things and you may find something you missed. Sometimes too much thermal paste is like having none at all. And are you running a stock cooler or aftermarket?

It isnt normal. A properly working CPU should not go above 72°C even under heavy load. Especially not after 4 minutes.

Well I will have to check if I forgot something while assembling it, but the thermal paste was already on the heat sink.
Im using the cooler that came with the CPU. I dont know about max temps, but I believe it shouldnt go above 72°C.

It is normal, I've seen people with their 4790ks at over 100c, prime95 stresses the cpu more than it would be in real situations, it's like making a fat guy run a 100m race, it stresses it, so hence the high temps, that's normal

Oh my god I made a typo, I have a 4590, not 4790. Sorry!

^ i know but I'm just making a example, the same rules apply to any cpu using prime

The stock heat sink on intel i5s and i7s is not up to the task of bringing the cpu down to 70C. You should buy an aftermarket cooler, but for now I suspect you did nothing wrong.
