I overclocked my 4690k with a Noctua NH-L12 Air Cooler on a MSI Z97-G45 board from 3.5-4.5GHz, I ran Prime95 for stability testing for an hour and it didn't show any instabilities at all, though it reached 100 degrees. I don't necessarily want to downclock beacause in anything else, whether it being gaming (BF4), Rendering, Other stresstesters (furmark, 3Dmark etc) it only reaches a 74 degree maximum. I dont see anything apart from Prime95 putting that much stress on the CPU, which equals in nothing bringing it to such temperatures... What do you think? Also, I want to look into a liquid cooling system, but have yet to decide.

More about : 100 degrees prime95

If you're using the most recent version of Prime95, it puts a completely unrealistic amount of stress on haswell chips. Try using version 26.6 of Prime95 and see how that compares. If you're still hitting 100C, make sure your heatsink is seated properly with a proper thermal paste application.

First your Tcase or core temp Max for your processor is 72.72 Degrees Celsius. You want to be well below that.
Second your aftermarket cooler is not going to cut the mustard. It is your problem. Period!
Post your System specs for kicks, so to speak, especially your case and I can recommend a cooler for you one that will work and fit in your case. Depending.

This will be so even if you check the TIM or thermal paste and reseat your heatsink.

Downloaded the 26.6 version, ran it for 10 Minutes, peak of 80C. By that time with the other version I would be way above 90's

The Noctua nh-u14s will fit and do the job. It is a Big Boy cooler.
