So I just did a Funmark benchmark of my Nvidia 560M. My highest temperature was 85C.
I just turned on the laptop and it was cold from the begining. the room is very cold since I left the windows open all day. I don't no if it's a bad thermal paste, but I bought my laptop in 2012 and was running Battlefield 3 on high setting before. No I get 10 FPS on low setting!

This is my Funmark benchamark test:

I got also this windows score (I know it's not accurate) But the GPU should be at 7,2 not 6,5.

I know Nvidia 560M throttles on low temperature, and have some issues. but it has been working before. I have done a clean install with the same disc it came with, and I installed all drivers from Alienware site before I installed the drivers from Windows update.

I really don't know if the issue is the CPU or the GPU. How can I tell?

I have an Alienware M17x r3 if that helps.

The only upgrade I have done is that I have installed a SSD. I have upgraded to the newest BIOS, and tried the old one that the laptop came with.

it's possible that it's the heat causing this problem, but I don't have any hope that a new thermal paste will sort this issue out. It will maybe help me from 85C down to maybe 75C. I'm pretty sure the problem will still be there, as the computer have bad performance right after it has been off for a while, and it has been in a cold room.

So I think it's a hardware problem. I'm going to send it in to repare if I cannot found a solution, but it will probably take a month to get it back.

If you guys want me to take some tests, than i can do that. but I'm going to get like 5-10 fps in every test.

Edit: My CPU is: intel i7 2630QM

have you checked your temps general running temps not just your peak with furmark?

defragging wont help coz ssd's dont benefit from it.
have you checked your antivirus to make sure its not scanning the files every time there loaded... some do and can cause issues with games (they combat this with something called games mode) if you have it use it.

85c for that card isnt a good temp fair enough you were maxing out fur-temp but really 85c on a laptop gpu isnt good even for a short while.
as its right at the cusop of throttling at that temp.
really the ideal is around 64c gaming and consider cleaning it there climbing around 75c.

lots of things can cause bad performance. swapping out a whql driver for a beta driver can cause issues for a lot of older games. so if you not playing the latest beta releases or the newest games just stick with whql drivers released by the manufacturer .
other things you may wanna check. hdd fragmentation, game data corruption, un needed startup items and just generally depopulate your hdd if its got less than 25% disk space left.

Hi, I did a clean install yesterday so I don't think I have any viruses. I have also cleaned dust out of my laptop. i got plenty off space on my SSD. I have the newest version of Nvidia and it's not a BETA but a whql.
