SSD Free Space is Eating Up

A few days ago the total amount of free space I had on my SSD was around 40GB but it has been dropping rather quickly and now I only have 30.6GB remaining. I don't know what is taking up all that space.

I haven't installed anything recently on the drive, the last thing I installed was a couple weeks ago and it was only a few 100mb. I've been recording Battlefield 4 (which is installed on my SSD) but all my raw footage from Dxtory is transferred to a folder on my HDD. I backup my PC every week to my HDD so I don't think that's the problem.

I removed a couple of junk things I still had and I now have 32.9GB free space. I guess that's as much as I'm getting back, though I guess I could move some program files installed on the SSD to the HDD to free up a little more space.

Have you tried WinDirStat yet? I have used it (and still have it installed) to find out how space was being used on an SSD and other drives. It is safe to use and is a free download.

Wow! 32GB. That meant you had a lot of crap wasting space. Run CCleaner once a week to keep the system free of all that junk. You may want to run it more than once... until it can't find any more stuff. Do the Registry portion too. That won;t free up much space, but if you had 32GB of junk, you probably have a lot of registry errors too.

Ther are some things you should do with a SSD that you wouldn't have to do with a HDD. It involves changing some Windows controls that are unnecessary with a SSD.

Making these tweaks will free up more space.

One thing I didn't try was clearing browser cache. After clearing it my free space increased to 36.6GB. I'll take a look at those tweaks but I guess it's good that CCleaner cleaned up over 6GB of junk.

Wow after removing the allocated page file the free space increased to 44.7GB, which is basically 14GB space freed up.
