I was thinking of buying this card for Maya
http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_i...
and was wondering if it would be good? I also want to do some gaming so I don't want a firepro or quadro.

I AM STILL LOOKING FOR MORE OPINIONS. PLEASE POST THEM. 14/9/14

Ya. That'll be fine. But what PSU do you have? The R9 295X2 requires TWO 28amp 8 pin PCIe connectors just to power the card, then the usual CPU and Mobo power. You'll need at the very least a 1,000 Watt unit.

I have this PSU which is a 750W

But I may sell this to a friend and get the one Blackbird recommended. I was just wondering how would this compare to a Titan Black in Maya?

A w8000 firepro should deliver R9 280 level performance in games. It's not a 295x2, but its probably more than enough if gaming isn't your primary goal. I would guess it would also generally be more efficient in programs like Maya.

Also, a w8000 is a sub 200w card, while an r9 295x2 is a 450w card. Also, the 8gb on the r9 295x2 will perform more like 4gb, since each gpu actually utilized 4gb in a sorta crossfire-like setup.

If I remember correctly, the GTX Titan series actually has pretty incredible workstation/compute potential alongside it's gaming prowess, so maybe the Titan Black might be more up your alley? (Or a Titan Z, but that's a 3k card.)

Yes it will meet your needs.

Get a nice 1000w power supply to run it.

I did a bit of research and will share it with you.

Nvidia recommends a Quadro K6000 (the best Nvidia graphics card and recommend graphics for Autodesk Maya). And I did a bit more research in the equivalent which is the GTX680, and most similar to a GTX780. And the Titan Black is most similar to the GTX780Ti.

If you understood what I said and link it together, the best to the lowest cards by Nvidia for Autodesk is GTX780Ti, Titan Black, GTX 780 (faster than the GTX680).

However I believe I ran out of topic as your initial question was about the R9 295x2. So I do apologise for that.

The R9 295x2 is most similar and equivalent to a Nvidia Titan Z (which I did not list before). Then this means that the R9 295x2 out performs the GTX780Ti, Titan Black, and GTX780.

Note: I am not familiar and in fact never used Autodesk Maya before. But in the end I kind of manage to link a few high end graphics card together.

I really hope I did not lose your attention to this.
