Hey everyone,

How does the R9 295x2 work? I've read that Crossfire X does not actually double total VRAM of two linked GPU's, but since the 295x2 is a single card will its 8GB of memory really work as 8GB? Or will is act as two 290X's except much more efficiently?

It's over twice the price and the card is simply two slightly higher clocked 290X's on the same PCB, so won't it really be more like a Crossfire setup?

It's all so confusing. If I'm gonna pay for an uber card that says 8GB I want to make sure I'm getting the full 8GB. Crossfire doesn't do this but crossfire does help a lot.

Lastly: I've read that all R9 295x2's are the same since the reference version by AMD already comes with a water cooling solution. So is this true? I see prices for the card ranging from 1000 to 1700 to more and I was wondering why.

I was considering the
8GB XFX Core Edition R9 Radeon 8QFA because it's the only remotely reasonably priced card. Beyond that I'd get 2x 290X's and simply crossfire and save the dough if people tell me that XFX isn't the greatest for the 295x2

The R9 295X2 is the same as using 2 R9 290Xs in CFX. They just have an internal CFX connection. The memory still acts the same, it is 8GB total but it is split between both GPUs and each GPU has 4GB to use so it is still as if you only have 4GB of total VRAM (even if a game says 8GB it is actually 4GB).

The best benefit is that it uses its own closed loop internal water cooling system so you can OC it very high with no heat issues and only use one PCIe slot.

All the R9 295X2s are the same. There is no after market version as the stock version is pretty much the best. Plus all of them on Newegg show as $999.99.

Unless you plan to game on 3 screens, and most likely UHD screens, it is overkill.

I've posted 30 threads this month and your answer was the best in spades. You told me EXACTLY what I was looking to hear in fact and left the opinions behind.

Dude thank you! I've been groaing all freaking week trying to understand the differences betwee crossfire and a 295x2 and you answered me one your first try.

You rock!
