I have read articles about graphics cards with 3gb vram can't properly utilize 3gb vram? Is that true? Is that the case for the msi r9 280x 3gb twin frozr?

Solution
Well a single 4Gb GTX 770 can use 3.6Gb(ultra @ 1080p) in watchdogs and maintain a playable framerate(30fps or more). The R9-280x's performance is right up there with the 770 so it should be capable of utilizing all 3Gb in a game/resolution that demands that much. There are some cases with mid and lower end gpus that manufactures will just add extra vram(worthless performance wise) as a marketing ploy(it's a really popular scam in the laptop market).

Haha I wouldn't woory much about it. Most games don't even need more 2 GB of VRAM. And R9 280's can utilize more than 2GB of vRAM .

I'm not sure but I think it maybe true upto some point. r9 280x may not be able to utilize 100% of Vram on it's own but it can Utilize more than 2Gb. I'm sure of that. Ultilization should be somewhat more or less to 85%.
