Hello, thanks to anyone who may respond.

I just built a new PC and my monitor keeps going blank for about 5 seconds after the windows splash screen then turns back on after desktop is loaded. After I installed all of the drivers that came with my GPU, mobo, and all of that is when this problem started. Prior to installing those drivers the monitor would not turn off at all. However I have ensured that the windows settings (refresh rate, resolution) are the same as the graphics card, yet it still blips out. Also all of the icons got a lot larger than the first few times i booted the computer making me think that its not truly running 1980x1080. Any suggestions how to resolve this? or some setting that I may be overlooking?

Running Asus 780GTX, windows 7 home premium

Once again thank you to anyone who responds, its greatly appreciated!

Depending upon your monitor and GPU, typically Windows will display the splash screen in a lower resolution mode (Not HD), and when Windows actually comes to the login and/or desktop, it is HD (some monitors will turn off and power back on to re-synch with the GPU).

You can check on the display settings by right clicking on the desktop, and click "screen resolution" - 1920 X 1080 is full HD.

I've checked settings at it says 1980x1080p. I'm just confused as to why all of a sudden the monitor is now going to the "does not have hdmi signal" after the windows splash screen then turns back on after the desktop is loaded. When it previously didn't do that. Is it some sort of driver issue potentially? Not that you're wrong, I've just never heard of monitors turning off and resyncing with gpu. I appreciate your input and comments! Anything helps!

That is definitely a very interesting observation. Glad I'm not alone. I mean the display functions flawlessly after boot is complete. Just a strange phenomenon. I'll definitely keep trying to dig deeper to figure out why it occurs. I mean odd to go from not doing it to doing it all of a sudden. I think its something to do with the gpu drivers and windows drivers not playing well together. Thank you for responding Ronintexas, I appreciate it a lot!

P.S. Do you have any idea why my icons would get larger after installing drivers? The resolution is still 1920x1080p.

When you initially install the drivers, the screen resolution is set to a low setting to verify operation, then automatically adjusted to the "native resolution" of the monitor(s). So the icons appear big, then smaller after a reboot.

I have one really annoying problem - my LG monitors have a "green feature" where when the screen saver is active (blank screen) for more than 5 minutes, the monitors power down. If I wake the computer, I have to press the power buttons on both monitors to turn them back on. There is no way to disable this feature.....had I known....I would have purchased different monitors.

That does sound annoying! That is kind of why I'm trying to see if I can do anything bout this because my computer boots faster and is waiting on a fully loaded desktop before the monitor even turns back on. :( minor inconvenience. Even after several reboots after drivers were installed the icons are still large despite being set to the "smallest" size in the windows display settings. Am I missing something to get them back to a smaller size? Just as point of reference they're about the size of a quarter or bigger which seems to be larger than normal size for a 1080p display. Idk ?

I have 24" monitors - they are much smaller....close to half the size of a quarter (about the thickness of my pinkie).

Check: Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Display - make sure it is set to the smallest....it sounds like yours is on the largest?
