okay so i've decided to redo the thread :], cause not only could it help me, it could help other brothers and sisters and other's too (for you NB people X) and others too) or just others if they happen to read this thread.

-MY PC SPECS-

Intel Core i7 4820K @Stock/Potentially may OC to 4.4Ghz - Hyper 212 EVO Dual Fan
Gigabyte X79-UD3
32GB Quad Channel Memory (Hynix)
3 Hard Drives - 2x Hitachi Ultrastar 1tb - Western Digital Caviar Blue 250gb

Computer usages -

Illustrator,Photoshop,Flash,3ds Max,Maya,Blender,SAI,Sketchbook Pro.
Gaming @1920X1200 - Dell U2412M
Streaming/Encoding - Bandicam,Twitch TV
Normal Usages like web browsing and all.

Now, I need a new Power Supply since my Old One (Corsair CX750) stuffed up and i also Need a new GPU since my 7950 unfortunately died.

GPU options so far are
-----
Replacement HD 7950
- Both Suit budget Needs, as i am buying used.
HD 7970/R9 280X
-----

R9 290
- Both are more expensive upgrade options
HD 7990
----

Anyhow what's the point in all the Power if you ain't got a good enough PSU to power it, i am not cheaping out on a PSU as my old 3770k system came with a cheap 750w PSU which nearly killed my 590.

so far there is

----
XFX Proseries 750W
Seasonic X-850
EVGA Supernova G2 750W and 850W
Corsair HX850

(Tell me if i missed one)
----

So far i'm leaning heavier towards the 850W EVGA G2 Supernova, but i could still be swayed.
GPU wise: Still deciding, but r9 290 is starting to look likely.

Maybe one little extra question.

Is it worth going to like a H60/H80 for an upgrade to my Cooler Master 212 EVO.

@OP: i would get this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151120&ignorebbr=1
it's a great unit and it is on sale right now it's usually around $170.

what kinda of nonsense is that? why would it matter if its bronze rated? platinum rated PSUs die too. the nonsense that runs rampant on these forums baffles me. i had a 750 watt platinum rated corsair blow up and fill my room up with the smell of burnt plastic. it only running 1 GTX 580.

those tier ratings that people on here keep referring to are stupid. the HX 750 unit is made by channel well, an OEM that 95% of this forum hates, AND the same OEM that made the OP's CX750 power supply that just failed on him.

Terro, can you expand on your meaning when you say the teir list is garbage? Examples of things it has misplaced, or anything like that? That sort of thing is probably more productive then just throwing the whole idea out.

As per the HX series itself, I am not aware of CWT being a bad OEM.

This review of the HX 850W made by the same OEM as the 750W gets a silver rating on hardocp.
http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/08/22/corsair_hx850_gold_power_supply_review/1#.VBPVhvldXA0

That being said, in future builds I intend to go Seasonic as they are recognized as perhaps the best in the business. X-750 gets my vote if its within budget.

when i say the tier list is garbage, i say that because some of those PSU units are high on the list or low on the list due solely to the fact that they were made by a good or bad OEM. tom's actually has another database they keep (although incomplete) that tell's you who made which PSU, check out this link: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/power-supply-oem-manufacturer,2913-5.html

the Corsair HX line is manufactured by 3 different OEMs, depending on which model you get. the applauded HX750, HX850, HX1050 and the entire universally hated CX and Builder series Corsair PSU lines are made by a Channel Well, a universally hated EOM on these forums. the 3 different model lines, while obviously having their differences, share a a lot of common components and are similarly assembled with s#!tty soldering jobs.

another issue is that even though there are excellent OEMs like Seasonic and Delta, they do have models of their own and models they build for other brands that are just built like crap. and yet, those models are ranked high on that tier list. I would have to go through that list to pick out specific examples, but i've seen a few terrible units ranked as tier 1 that people on here recommend. i just can't remember them all off the top of my head.

but the 750W - 1050W Corsair HX models should definitely NOT be tier 1. i would rank them tier 2 at best, and only because they are made a little better than their CX counter parts.

i love Superflower to death!!! their new 1200 watt Leadex Platinum is just jaw dropping. even at 90% load (1000 watt pull!!!) every single voltage rail stays with in 1% of where it should be. the 5V rail doesn't ever budge, stays at 5V. and the efficiency is ridiculously close to titanium rating. craziest part, it only costs $200.

Omy ;-;, i'm struggling with the options and which one to decide, i also heard it's unwise to go for something like a 1000w power supply cause you wont benefit from the power efficiency or such with a set up like mine?.

also turns out my poor 7950 bit the dust, may i just put up another thread or you guys could answer it in here?.

can this become a discussion, for both a gpu and psu too? :], i unfortunately don't have enough for a 780ti/780. but looking about on the used market i found i can get another 7950 or 7970, but if i go a bit deeper, i could get a HD 7990 or a R9 290.
and on the nvidia side i can get the 4gb version of ethier gtx 670, 680, or 770.

HD 7990 i heard can take on the 780ti and TITAN (seen it beat the titan in one test), but remembering my GTX 590 i don't fancy a card like a Old Supercar, Fast, Powerful, unstable, hot.

If you are wondering why so much Vram, i fancy playing skyrim with massive texture packs on. i run 1920x1200.

heart says HD 7990, Head says R9 290 or 7970 or 7950

fkr

Splendid
i run CF 7950's at 1440p and I have no complaints.

as for the other cards the 680 and 770 are basically the same in performance. If you could go to the r9 290 that is a nice upgrade from the r9 280 (7950).

just make sure it is a good aftermarket cooler r9 290 as they run much cooler and quieter. msi twin frzr is my favorite in the used department as the honor warranties.

You know what. i've decided i'm gonna get the EVGA unit for my 4820K.

but!

I also had intention of maybe replacing the enermax 500W in my family desktop!, the enermax one is older and it might be better long term to replace it with a seasonic X series down the line~ the enermax unit has no 80+ rating, and the motherboard on it already survived a CX750 blowing up on it, so a 2nd one might be it for it.

(family desktop is i5 2320 with a 550ti).

:? i hope everyone is okay D: sorry if i didnt go for your suggestion.

GPU wise, still debating, but R9 290 looks more the likely to win

The GTX 970 and 980 cards are rumored to be announced *tomorrow*. It is probably worth it to at least wait for the announcement to see what, if anything, it does to nvidia / amd prices before buying that 290.

DRAAAAAAAAGOOOOOOOONNNNNNSSSSSSSSSSSSSS *fangirls*, plus it does look cool

if i can, can i get a one with the stock cooler and replace it with my 7950's Vapor X cooler? :D

Eh forgive me for a double post and bringing up a really old thread, but hey i just felt like it.

So i went with the G2 850W and have been running it ages, and i was just about to get a 7990 but prices for them went up around the time i was shopping for a new GPU, and i found out the R9 290 didn't support VGA monitors.

So i found myself a 7970ghz 6GB edition for about 200-220$ and have again ran it with my G2 unit and it's been utterly flawless.
