Not easily would be the simple answer.
Your laptop supports hdmi output, so you are OK there.
Your amplifier on the other hand is pretty limited.
It only seems to have RCA inputs, so I guess these must expect PCM to support surround sound.
To get from hdmi to there though is going to require an active device.
I can find links for these that can output to optical or coaxial outputs to support old amplifiers, but your amp doesn't support these either.

I think to get this working you will be looking for a better amplifier with hdmi pass through (AV receiver). Yamaha have some good low end models. Have a look at the RX-V375.

Connect the laptop to the Sony via the headphone/line output.

This will only be stereo sound through the front right and front left. He wants the "surround sound experience".

His HTib only has analog inputs so no other way to connect to it. He would just select Dolby Prologic II and he will get surround sound. Not as good as digital surround but that is all that he can do with the Sony.

Can you select "Dolby Prologic II" on a laptop for the headphone output?
