Overclock my FX-8320 if I disable 4/8 cores?

Hi,

I started playing DCS: World and it's modules, and it demands a very good CPU, but its not so well at multithreading... So, would I be able to increase my OC alot if I disable 4/8 cores? I am at 4.3GHz now on all 8 cores with a vcore at 1.38v.

Disabling cores do improve my OC range, right?

Solution
what i meant is that your sabetooth would never be a drawback regarding overclocking. 1.45v is still acceptible but as i said that would also depend on the cpu itself. for such high voltage and 24/7 use i would prefer something better than 212 evo in order to ensure core temps of below 60c at all times.! as for your psu 12v rail it is within the ATX specs ( +12VDC ± 5% +11.400 VDC +12.600 VDC) else it would probably shut down!

Very many says that disabling cores should increase your OC capabilite per core, I dont know myself cuz I havent tryed (Except at this moment), so I cant tell.. I'm not talking about CPU usage etc, im talking about to increase OC range if disabling core.
Anyways, I disabled every core in BIOS except 2nd, so now Windows says I have 1 core. Probably cuz AMD FX shares 2 cores per module or something like that..

Tho, the "disable core-INC OC range" is true. I have never managed to boot up at 4.7GHz on just 1.38VCore! And my socket temp is as low as 36C :D 5GHz, here I come ^^

SPECS
AMD FX-8320
ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0
Corsair Vengeance 1600 XMP 8GB, running at 1866MHz with 2400MHz Northbridge.
R9 270X 2GB
CoolerMaster G650M 650watt 80+bronze certified

You're wrong.. I just tryed it myself recently. I have never been able to fire up and run Prime95 my CPU at 4.7GHz on 1.38v on full cores, never ever.. Tho, I decided to go 4.838MHz on all 8 cores instead.. :p Tho, my Vcore is very very high at that moment, (1.440v)
Is my PSU on it's edge if the 12v rail is at 11.891v? How would I know if the PSU is saying "No"?

And yes.. The Saberkitty rocks! :D My cpu cooler is CM Hyper 212 evo with MX-4 Thermal compound.

Oh, wow. Thank you for the informative reply! :)
So, 11.901-12.004 is perfectly normal? Aswell with the 5v 4.996-5.005? And yea, I need a better cooler, Recently, 10minutes in a Prime95 Blend Test.... (below)
CPU Socket - 61C max
CPU Package 0 - 59.0C max
VCore - 1.392
7th-8th cores disabled in BIOS.
This at 4.5GHz..

Though, im not going to play Prime95, haha.. So, if it doesnt reach 59C+ in Battlefield 4, then I call it stable. And if the PSU is saying no, does that end up in a immediate shutdown just like that, or like a BSOD or something?

But hey, 1.45Vcore is marked in yellow.. Isnt 1.45 maximum for AMD FX-8320?

instead of disabling cores you could just buy a better cpu cooler to deal with the heat produced and incresed core temps of beyond 60c that produces trottling or even instabilities! for instance a Noctua D14 would allow you to reach further! your psu it is a decent one, enough for your specs. generally i would be satisfied with 4.5ghz with your cpu and cooler. if you would like better performance look into a gpu upgrade.!

4.7GHz now, temperatures not critical under gaming, 1.45VCore.
The thing is, I only played BF4 a few weeks ago, but now I found these DCS: World games and DCS: A-10C Warthog and it's so nice simulator. But the actual game only utilize one core, or well, two to be honest. One for audio and one for game. This CPU aint so good at singlethreaded softwares, so I cant max the settings.. And I doubt its the GPU, as im only using ~1GB VRAM and the GPU load max has been 90%

i see..., however are you sure your gpu isnt restrained after the disabled cpu cores, even though arent all utilized by the game? i think your gpu should hit higher than 90% usage. also, have you tried gpu o/c? that games requirements arent that big. maybe just badly optimised!

But I dont think the DCS flightsimulators is so GPU heavy actually.. It's more like very many objects all the time, and if im not way outta my head, that is CPU work.. Or shit, who am I kidding, lol... I have no idea at all, lol....

Yes my GPU is a bottleneck, atleast in Battlefield 4 it is.. Well, FX-8320 sucks balls in single-threaded games ^^

There's no point in OC'ing my GPU, its already factory OC'ed to 1070MHz on the core.. Its Sapphire DUAL-X OC
