cannot dmz or portforward

i have a speedstream 4200(windstream modem) and a vizio xwr100 wireless router
a new game i play requires me to port forward 2 ports and i have tried they wont open i tried turning on dmz setting it to my ip and it either doesnt work or i get no connection to the internet. help is apreciated
i would rather just dmz and have everything open if possible

it seems you have two options:
1) Put the speedstream in to Bridge Mode which will make it function as a modem only; however, you will most likely have to figure out how to autherticate to your ISP via the router. Afterwards you will do the port forwarding or DMZ on the router.
2) Configure the router as a wireless access point and have the speedstream provide the IPs. Afterwards you will need to do the port forwarding or DMZ on the speedstream.

you will have to change you router to become a Access Point.

set it like you said and i cannot access my router now but i port forwarded and even put on dmz on my modem and it says to check the ports but it doesnt say that strict nat and that udp is disabled anymore just tells me to port forward and my isp says they cant help me with figuring out whats wrong what do i need to do to acces my router

i portforward from my modem and the game still tells me that i have strict nat and to forward theports dmz does not work either
