Hi community,
I'm in the middle of building my pc (first one) and i'm about to install the PSU.
Now, i picked up that the fan should be mounted downwards so the PSU can suck
fresh air in and exhaust it from the back.

I was planning to do that till i noticed that my Case had only a vent at the bottom but no filters at all.
Now i'm wondering if i should put the fan upwards and let it suck from inside the case to prevent the PSU sucking in all the dust.

I mean, i can clean my case from dust but i can't clean inside my PSU without a hastle.

Can someone give me a quick tip on what to do?

PSU is a Seasonic M12II EVO 750w and the case is a Cooler Master Storm Enforcer if that helps.

Thanks in advance.

Aie aie aie... Ok, so take your PSU out, plus everything in, and turn on the computer. Now, put your hand right over the PSU fan grille, and feel the airflow. If it`s spitting air out, you`re safe as the air will repel any dust or hairs. If it`s sucking air in, your best bet would be to mount the PSU fan facing inside your case as dust and hairs won`t get sucked in.
I would say put the fan at the bottom because you'll be safer that way. You don't know if the PSU fan is sucking air in or spitting hot air out, and you don't want to overheat your GPU. If you put your hand over the PSU fan while it's running, you can tell which way the fan is moving air in. If it's sucking air in, I would say put it at the bottom as you don't want your other components to overheat because the PSU is sucking fresh air in. If it's spitting air out, still put the fan facing downwards as you don't want the PSU to spit hot air into your system.

Thanks for the quick reply,

But my main worry concerns the dust.
I have a few pets aswell so i would like to know if the dust and cat hairs can be a risk for the PSU if they get sucked in.
Cause i have no filters and no way to mount them, unless i squeeze 'em inbetween the case and PSU wich means i need to demount it all if i want to change/clean them.

Alright, sorry i didn't understand what you meant the first time.

The PSU seems to be sucking air in, so i will mount it facing up inside the case.

Thanks for your help!

I guess you have a bottom mounted PSU. The PSU fan should be facing downwards, sucking in air, and extracting at the back, keeping the PSU cool. It's almost impossible to install the PSU inverted.

Don't worry about dust or pet hairs. Any decent case has a dust filter at the bottom PSU intake (MY low end Spec 02 has one, so I will say your case has one). If not, they are cheap :) http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Description=dust%20filters&Submit=ENE

What I would do is to clean my case every six months, and everything will be good.
