I am looking to upgrade my CPU for video editing. I have an older ASRock Z77 Extreme4 and was wondering if it will work with an i7-4790.

The socket type required for the i7 LGA 1150 which the Asrock board seems to have. If they are not compatible, why not since they have the same socket? Thank you

Solution
They do not have the same socket, Z77 is socket 1155 while haswell CPUs need 1150 as you mentioned, you need a mobo with either 80s or90s denotation such as z97 or h81, excluding x99

You prob better off getting a 3000 series i7. The 4790K is pretty good mainly cuz of overclocking but Im not sure slightly better overclock is worth buying a new MoBo. If you already have a 3000 series i7 then it's def not gonna be worth the money.
