Connecting boot drive

Hi

Can I connect my boot drive to any sata 6gbs port on my motherboard (they are all 6gbs ports) or must the boot drive absolutely be connected to the port labeled 0 ?

The reason for my question is that I have 4 ports in 2 rows on my motherboard Gigabyte H97-D3H (Visualize a square with 4 boxes). The manual indicates that sata port 0 is the one further to the right on the first row. The one to its left is port 2, the one further to the right on the second row is 3 and the one to its left is port 4.

However, on the mobo itself, just on the border there is a 0 that is printed with no other reference indicating what that 0 mean and that 0 appears next to the port labeled 3 (further to the right on row 2). So, unless I am mistaken (probably), there would appear to be a contradiction between the mobo itself and the manual. So, the big question is WHICH IS PORT 0 ?

What will happen if I do not connect the boot drive to port 0 ?

Thank you

SATA boot order is determined by the BIOS - when you have drives connected to the SATA ports, the BIOS will allow you to choose which one to boot from, and the order to boot from. The only issue is with SATAI/SATAII/SATAIII ports, and since you have all SATAIII, you should be able to plug it into any of the 4 ports.

Thank you for your quick reply.

If I connect only one drive to the PC, will the BIOS regnize this drive as the default boot drive or shall I have to adjust it in the BIOS myself ?

With this kind of boot order won't your PC pause for a while before booting from the Hard Drive ? In other words, won't the booting process take longer ?
