I want to buy a monitor but also a tv at this time and i have the budget to spend only for one of these and i was wondering if a good tv could do the job for both. I had a 32'' TV and i want to go for a 42'' LED LCD KDL42W705BBAEP SONY instead of getting a monitor if it's good enough. 550€ max. Any thoughts?

Yes a TV can. If you get a good 1080p TV it should have an HDMI connector on the back which is almost as good as DVI (debatable yes). If you graphics card has an HDMI out you can hook direct to the TV and if not you can get a DVI to HDMI convertor.

I currently have two computers my self. One for my desk and one for my TV. My Home Theater (HT) computer has an old Radeon 7870 and a BluRay player in it. I use it for watching Hulu and Netflix. I told my cable company to go pack sand because I am not willing to pay their prices for TV I can get on the internet. :p I digress. I hope this helps.

Thank you for your answer! I will be wating for more people for any 'extra' info i can get :)

But a tv is going to be tn, and like tn monitors, you won't have the color accuracy of decent ips monitors that I'd suggest for video/photo editing. You will find it'll be "good enough" but any pro isn't going to use tn.

Dvi vs hdmi is not debatable. Hdmi has more color space and any new tv is hdmi 2.0 which is higher bandwidth than dual link dvi which doesn't really matter unless it's 4k or real 120hz. The issue is gpus only have 1.4 so is less bandwidth. Idk what else you thought was debatable, quality was never an issue with both being digital and capable of 8 bit color which most displays being 6+frc.
