Hey,

Im going to be making a new pc at around christmas time but i have to ask a question. When it comes to graphics cards should i go with the 290x or 780ti, and im definately not going wth the reference cooler for the 290x. I was thinking about asus 290x or evga 780to dual classified superclocked wth acx cooler because i wont be water cooling. Which one should i go with?

Also wht about the gtx 800 series?

More about : graphics card superior

The GTX 780 Ti is superior, but the R9 290X is the sufficient performance, enough to max out every game, but not more than enough. What I mean is: Do you need the extra performance from GTX 780 Ti to stream? Cause R9 290X is all you need for video games.

It depends if you are in the Red or Green camp. I like Nvidia just because their cards don't seem to be such power hogs and need high wattage PSU but I have been known to go red from time to time because AMD has good game bundles with their cards.

If you are looking for bench marks try this...

sorry try this one...

nVidia 900* series is launching this month, I would wait for the numbers to come for the GTX 980 before deciding. Apparently it will be a bit better than 780ti according to some sources I've read (not saying trust) Otherwise I would get a 780ti because I'm a nVidia fanboy, I think 780ti is a tad better as well compared to 290x

GTX 780 Ti should be slightly faster.
But consider waiting for the new GTX 900 series, since they will be launched very very soon.I would wait and grab one of those.

DireMe, the GTX 980 isn't coming. It's Maxwell, GTX 880.

http://www.vg247.com/2014/09/11/nvidia-gtx-900-series-r...
"Nvidia is said to be showing off its GTX 900 series at EGX London later this month, and the report also states the firm will be skipping out on releasing an 800 line of cards.
Purportedly, Nvidia won’t call the next series of cards GTX 800 due to some confusion it would create between the card maker’s desktop and mobile product lines.
GTX 980 uses the 28nm process and clocks at 1000MHz and it has 4GB of video memory and it is 30% faster than Nvidia’s 780Ti.
The GTX 980 and GTX 970 will release first, with the GTX 960 releasing later.
Nvidia’s Titan Z, 780Ti, 780, 770 and 760 cards will continue to be supported for a bit.
Gigabyte revealed the GTX 900 series rwill arrive sometime in October 2014."

Well for me, i do want to end up streaming in the future and a big reason tht i am siding wth nvidia right now is power consumption, but i feel the 290x is more powerful in terms of gaming, am i wrong in thinking this?

They are basically equal IF you get a proper cooled 290x.

Most of the time the 780 will win, the 290x has problems maintaining it's core speed due to throttling without superior cooling.

And it also causes issues with inferior power supplies.

You are not wrong. It depends on the Game. Some games are better optimized for the card and others are not.

So therefore no one else should mention it, and we should just close the thread then?

No I'm saying that. :)
I thought that you said that this debate is pointless because you didn't see that we've mentioned that he should wait for the 900 series.
But anyway, sorry if I've made you mad in some sorta way. :)

Well, that debate, 290X vs. GTX 780 Ti, is pointless and now so is this one.
