Hello everyone I'm building a Pc in about two weeks and I am stuck on the graphics cards. I was looking at GTX 770 and R9 280X and I have chosen the AMD card because it is around £30 cheaper and the two card have similiar performance levels. Not long ago I've heard that GTX 900 series are coming out very soon and that R9 285X is also just around a corner. If those cards come out this will mean that prices of other video cards will drop or that the new video cards will offer better bang for the buck. So do you guys think I should wait and then compare all of the cards that fit into my budget or should I buy R9 280X as the new cards will be expensive at the beginning anyway?

I would wait, since they might get a price drop, or the new ones might have a really good deal that you can just buy the new card instead.

There will indeed be a price drop when Nvidia's 800 - series cards are released. This may or may not affect AMD's pricing until we see the R9 285X.

The R9 280X is probably the most cost-effective GPU available currently. It's a massively popular card.

wait until the GTX900 the R9 285X is a more efficient R9 280X with a couple of new stuff like amd free sync support and such ...

IMO just get the GTX 970 when it is out 4GB of GDDR5 ram makes it future proof

I would love to get GTX 970 but I'm worried that it will be too expensive. The maximum amount I can spend on a GPU is around £220.

R9-285X will end up hot on the heels of the R9-290. Better power consumption and better performance across the board.

I have been testing the R9-285 DCUII and it is a surprisingly good performer over the 280.

The good thing is, your expected purchase date of "in about two weeks" will be after the GTX 980s and 970s get released. You won't have to worry at that point and you'll know a lot more than you do now. The GTX 960s should be out in October for the more budget friendly version of Maxwell.

When is R9 285X exactly coming out? I couldn't not find any news about R9 285X on the web. I have only found some news about Nvidia and that GTX 970 and GTX 980 will come out on the 19th September and that GTX 960 will appear on the market in mid-October.

R9-285 just launched, literally, a week ago, within next 30 days I would expect the 285X.
