Aside from being able to boot a computer off of it, can I still use a usb with an operating system like a normal usb? Or will I be throwing away the usb?

Solution
Normally yes, but it depends on OS & filesystem. For example if you have Linux with ext3 filesystem on that USB stick it won't be readable under Windows (without additional stuff installed). In that case you'll have to create a separate partition with NTFS or some of the FAT variant filesystems for regular USB stick usage.

If you have Windows (such as Bart PE) on that USB stick then you're good to go as it is.

Funny enough, right before I read your response I had cleared out the USB drive of all files. Afterward I tried uploading a file and couldn't. Should I re-install the boot-able file?

Also, another person mentioned a software that could help cross-operating systems. Would this be Wine?
