Hello, my current setup is an I7 4790K on an ASUS Maximus VII Hero with an H100i for the CPU cooler in a HAF X case, I was reading reviews on the H100i and am questioning its durability now. my only other alternatives for air cooling are the Noctua NH D14 and the Cooler master hyper 212 Evo, but I am not sure if they will fit in my case, I have the old Corsair Vengeance RAM so I know I will have to update that if I choose this road. My question is should I go with Air cooling or Liquid cooling like I have now? I don't overclock much but would like the ability to.

More about : cooler master hyper 212 evo haf

If it is only the fan that will interfere with the memory, you can slide the fan up on the Hyper 212 Evo. Is the H100i doing its job at the moment? It is a very popular AIO cooler and most people have no problems with it. As long as it is functioning now you should be good and it should allow you to overclock quite well without taking up the case space that an air cooler does.

If you do decide to go with an air cooler for ease of mind, both the Hyper 212 Evo and the Noctua allow very good overclocks with great temperatures. The D14 performs a bit better but it also takes up quite a bit more space.

It would mostly be for peace of mind, though in my last build I had a Coolit vantage ALC installed for 3 years and never had a problem with it, even though looking up reviews recently says they are terrible. The H100i is functioning great and it idles at around 30 to 40c and the max load ive put on it besides benchmarking with Intel Burn test brought it to around 70c. The fans do not get very noisy either. Ive only had it for 2 days though. The reviews about it leaking make me kind of nervous though.

Keep the Watercooling, just get better fans because the fans that it comes with are absolute shit. look for fans that have 95-110CFM. The ones i use are Scythe Ultra Kaze's, but you'll need a fan controller for those. I would suggest getting Cooler Master Jet Flos they have 95CFM so they push a lot of air. Oh and also do a push/pul config for the cooler. oh and since you have the HAF series the noise level is going to be reduced because the HAF series have 2 layers of covers, metal from inside, and plastis on the outside. It will reduce the noise level of the fans.

And the Noctua unit is more expensive, but not THAT worth it. Sure, if you like expensive coolers...

It is also the people that have a bad experience that cry the loudest while those that have a good experience do not normally leave a positive review. If it is functioning fine then I would leave it. As I said, it is one of the most popular coolers. I have used them in builds before and have had zero problems.

I have a haf x with a hyper 212 Evo with 2 fans on it in a push pull and have no issues. Also the nhd-14 should fit without ossue

The lower price of the Hyper 212 Evo would allow me to upgrade a bit more but I am satisfied with the cooling I am getting from the H100i. Ive never been paranoid about liquid cooling before now. Ive also read the i7 4790k is a hot chip so I have to consider that too, every review of the 212 evo seems positive.

The 212 Evo probably isn't gonna cool better then The h100i. Also the 4790k is a cooler operating version of the 4770k which was a real hot chip. However the Evo is a good cooler but the noctua would cool a good bit better and the. There is the phantek-tcp14 or something like that which is another fantastic air cooler. Both the noctua and the phantek both cool as good and have actually beaten the h100 in some test and matched it's cooling in just about every test they were ran against.

i have a 212 evo and am very satisfied with it,but look at it this way.you have a cooler that works well.your temps are fine.there is an old adage that says "if it aint broke dont fix it".this would seem to apply in your case.

Seeing as you have my Same case, did you have any problems with the back bracket of the 212 evo touching the motherboard tray since the CPU cutout on the HAF X doesnt expose it all the way? If I was to change I wouldnt want to short anything out.
