Hello,

I plan to buy an SSD to support my older HDD and I've got several questions regarding both the installation and usage (Most of these will have probably been answered already but I can't be bothered to look up older threads).
Installing: I looked this up earlier and installing the hardware is pretty straight forward (just plug it in and install the chosen OS on it). My question is, when I reinstall my HDD in the system does it get all wonky because both drives have the same Launch files (most people say no, but I still wanted to check)? and when I get a succesful boot with the SSD, do I just go in the HDD directory and delete the duplicate OS files, and if so what do I delete?

And putting stuff on the SSD, is it just as simple as copying the folders over (such as steam)?

Solution
So...

First, copy off any critical, personal data elsewhere and offline. Just in case.

Install the SSD
Install the OS with only the SSD connected
Once it all works, verify the SSD is the first option in the BIOS boot order

Now you can connect the HDD
If there is nothing on there you want to keep, get into Disk Management, and delete ALL partitions, leaving one large unallocated space.
Format that, and give it a drive letter.
If there IS some stuff still on there that you still want/need, copy it (temporarily) to the SSD.
Steam games can be moved around thusly: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7418-YUBN-8129
Docs/music/etc....copy the files over, not the top level Folders.

Then format the HDD as above.
After...
Most new SSDs today come with cloning softwares, or they can even easily downloaded off the Internet too. Just choos be what all studbook wanna clone, like OS and games and other programs, and you have those of on SSD without the need to re install.
You can just format the c drive if you've copied all games and programs or just uninstall windows if games are to be on HDD.
Why to keep the same operating system on two different drives? Just uninstall it from HDD

thanks for the reply. Im planning on buying the samsung 840 EVO 250gb, is it any good?

That's a great choice! EVO is a very fine SSD, and 250 gb is more than enough for the whole C drive with games, you can just clone the data to SSD and uninstall OS from HDD or just format it if doesn't contain valuable data like imp docs or pics or stuff.
If that is the case, just Copy those temporarily to SSD, format HDD, and then assign it a letter, USAFRet explained it nicely.
