Hi, Ive been looking at motherboard for the i7 3770 but all the motherboards like the Asus Maximus IV say they are lga 1155 which would fit my processor but they also say "LGA1155 socket for 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i7/Core™ i5/Core™ i3 Processors". I have a 3rd gen i7 though, would this still fit my processor. Here is the motherboard I've been looking at.

Solution
The motherboards that officialy support 3rd gen processors are the Z77, Z75, H77, Q77, QZ5, B75 chipset ones.

I recommend you the ASRock Z77 Extreme4 motherboard. It will arrive new and fully functional, unlike the Maximus IV you want to buy.

Most likely was built around the time of 2nd gen. If I'm correct, as long as the socket still has all the correct holes for the pins, you can run the 3rd gen on it.

All third generation cpus work on 1155 mobos, but some motherboards need a BIOS update, the worst case scenario here would be that the 1155 mobo that you bought need a BIOS update, and you need a already suported cpu (most second generations cpus) to update the BIOS. Do you have a second generation cpu?
