Hi, I am using the Comcast wireless modem for our home wifi. It is currently working well for the first floor and outside but does not reach the basement. I have purchased a Zyxel WAP3205 V2 and think I have set it up correctly. Question is where do I put it? Do I put it in the basement with the laptop pulled in, should I put it on the first floor pulled into the comcast modem?

Yes, you have the correct piece of hardware to fix your basement dead WiFi issue. The ideal would be to have it in the basement, but connected to the modem via Ethernet wired connection. Depending on your house, this may not be easy to do, as pulling cable through a house can damage the house if not done properly.

Putting the modem in the basement, and using it as a repeater will not work if there is no signal, and even if there is signal it will degrade the speed by one half as it must transmit and receive.

The option I would recommend you look into is a Powerline adapter kit. I would use this to bring the internet into the basement via a power outlet, and then connect your Zyxel to that...
