I have an HP pavilion g6 with almost all the original components, including the intel core i3 processor. And it just doesn't work well with my art rendering programs like photoshop. I want to upgrade to a better processor so that I can do my work more efficiently. What would be the best cpu to get?

Upgrading from an OEM pc using an i3 is not that simple. You should consider changing the motherboard too

Supported CPU's
Pentium B960 up to i7-2620M "12 CPU's Total"

Cost for the best CPU's you can find for that unit.
i7-2620M ~$110
i5-2540M ~$60

Doing a Laptop CPU upgrade is not exactly easy, there are lots of screws and you have to be very careful and pay close attention when taking it apart. If your not so tech Savy I would avoid it, the process is very easy to screw up your Laptop if you plan on doing it yourself.

Also when doing Rendering and PhotoShoping the GPU and Ram play a big factor, you can up the Ram but the Video card is part of the motherboard which isn't so cheap to replace.
