Hey guys
im not an expert in this stuff, i might have a stupid question
what's the difference between a Core 2 duo E8600 3.3ghz
and an i3-4130 3.4ghz
they've got almost the same core clock, and both have 2 cores i think
and is the E8600 good for medium gaming?

Solution
not only is that i3 faster clock-for-clock (higher IPC), it also has 2 hyperthreaded cores with which to help with multithreaded applications. that i3 4130 should soundly spank an old E8600 in everything.

that being said, games that are less CPU dependant should perform well enough (low, maybe medium settings), as the core series cpu's arent exactly a slouch...just a little long in the tooth. additionally, most mobo's that support an E8600 also support the core2quad series so perhaps you could upgrade to a used q9550 quadcore.

a q9550 would perform better in most things these days compared to an E8600 although the core2quad is still behind the times compared to most modern intel CPU's
