Hello! My brother just bought a new Radeon R9-280X (Gigabyte 3 GB edition) and he is pretty modest about PC graphics so he offered me to switch his graphics card with mine. Here's my Rig's specs:

Cpu: Intel i7 3770k 3.5 GhZ
Gpu: Nvidia GeForce 680 GTX
Motherboard: Intel DZ77SL-50K
Ram: 8GB DDR3

What I'd like to ask you is which one is better in gaming. I've watched some reviews first but I couldn't really determine which one is the best. So here I am, looking for some "Tech Gurus" offering to help.
Is it worth it to switch my GTX 680 with the R9-280X?

Thanks!

280X is overclocked 7970, 770 is overclocked 680. Both ware doing fair against each other in past years so No, not worth a switch they all have basically similiar performance.

The 280X is slightly faster. The GTX 770 is an updated GTX 680 basically with faster memory and it is slightly faster than the 280X in most games. The extra 1GB of VRAM of the 280X will help you in some games as well. Skyrim with mods can use well over 2GB at 1920 x 1080 for instance.

GTX 770 and 280X trade blows depending on the game. The GTX 680 is not on the list but as I said it's slightly slower than the GTX 770 so you can get a good idea.

The stock (refercne cards) perform exactly the same (both at 98%)

the MSI one is factory overclocked.

The 680 has a lot more overclocking headroom than the 280x tho....so if you are using Afterburner or anything like that, I'd stick with the 680.

You really feel like giving up PhysX, Adaptive VSync, TXAA, FXAA, HBAO+, and Nvidia drivers for a reduction in performance?

(This is the latest chart with the most recent games and the latest drivers.)

I appreciate your help guys, but your answers were about the stock version of the R9-280X not the GIGABYTE edition.

I'm not sure about this thing too. Anyways, what enlightens me is that this card will support mantle as well.
Any other answers please?

I prefer Nvidia for the reasons 17seconds listed. If it was me I would keep the 680 but as I said above certain games need more than 2GB of VRAM. So it really comes down to what you play.

Mantle is an aid on systems with budget to mid range CPUs, you have a 3770k, Mantle won't do anything for you.

And it's only supported by about 10 games.
