Setting up RAID

Okay, this is a really basic question.

I am trying to set up my 2 HDDs into raid 1.

I have in my new system 2x 120gb SSDs and 2x 2tb HDDs. Motherboard is Asus x99 Deluxe which has a "EZ Tuning Raid Config" my concern is the big error message that says it could affect the boot system.

It asks me to change my SATA to RAID, will this mean ALL my hard drives become RAID? As obviously I don't want my SSD's to be affectred.

Both drives are empty but in device manager one drive shows "Paging file". Does this need to be moved before proceeding with the RAID?

Appreciate your response.

AHCI is a subset of RAID and using it on the HDDs does not mean that you have to use it on the SSDs. The only issue is that some SSD tuning software does not work properly when the motherboard SATA mode is not set to AHCI specifically.

Depending on how much memory you have you can run without a paging file, or you can just create one on the array after it is built.

Just disable it. Reboot into the bios and turn on raid. Save And exit will force a reboot and now you enter the raid bios and configure & format the raid1. Saving will reboot again into windows where you can leave the paging file disabled or re-enable it if you wish. Mine has been disabled for years without an issue for what its worth.

Okay, I think I need a walk through as I just attempted this and then completely failed.

Motherboard is Asus x99 Deluxe.

Moved the page file to an unused SSD for the time being.

Went to EZ Tuning Wizard, set to RAID and then saved changes. Upon reset the system turned off but did not power off (fans still going etc) after it being like this for 20 minutes I hit the reset button. Luckily the system appears unharmed and the SATA did change to RAID. So I continued with the EZ Tuning Wizard and on the first screen it showed my 4 available drives (2x SSDs and 2xHDDs) when I proceeded and selected I wanted RAID 1. It then only showed me my 2 SSDs with no option to choose which drives to set to raid with an error message saying that if I proceed it will wipe my OS which obviously I do not want to do.

So, I changed the SATA controller to AHCI and then saved and reset, but when I returned to the BIOS I could not set up RAID without changing SATA back to RAID. I am now a very confused and annoyed PC novice, please help! :)
