Had a 1TB Barracuda, has just failed after 5 years. Got 4TB Barracuda for storage. Was thinking 2TB WD Blue or Black for OS (Win7, 64bit)?
Getting into a lot of gaming, so performance desired, but I've been reading: for the extra power consumption and noise, Black might not be worth price jump?

Storage has no effect on in-game performance. It only effects how fast sections of the game load. HDD's already load games quite fast, but large games do benefit from an SSD like Battlefield 4 and Skyrim. A good option would be a small 120GB SSD and another separate 1 or 2TB HDD.

I'd suggest investing into an SSD which will be much faster. All your other data goes on your 4TB drive, so there's no space restrictions there. A couple games could go on the SSD. I'd recommend a Samsung 840 EVO SSD, 120 or 250GB, which is all you need. It's much faster than a WD Black drive and since it's an SSD it makes no noise at all.

Ok thanks for reply.
Prob with that is the 4TB is almost full with media (and ever-increasing), so the OS drive would be the one with all my games installed, prob not enough room? Guess I could go up to a 500gb..
Excuse if this is a rookie question, but if the games are installed on the 4TB, does that not mean that performance is throttled to that drive while playing that game?
